Woven Wind

Woven Wind

Silk is sunlight,

Silk is golden,

Silk is rich,

Silk is treasure,

Silk is wealth,

Silk is immortal.

Seeing All

Seeing All

Moon shines like a bright torch guiding traders safely,

Onward goods play at trading their worth like a game of catch,

Overlooking planets watch merchants falling for poor deals,

Northern star gazes thoughtfully at the enchanting night sky.

Analysing moves both day and night,

Notable stones and precious gems switching hands,

Dark nights marking the end of frenzied bartering.

Striking gold coins visiting one place to the next,

Traders seeking reassurance on their sales,

Appalling behaviour in the heat of exchange,

Ruthless goods demanding buyers’ attention,

Sun and moon switching places to referee the next contest.

Trading on The Silk Road

Trading on The Silk Road

Rich purple amethysts smile warmly to one another,

Vivid green emeralds wink mysteriously in the moonlight,

Radiant clear diamonds glint like disco balls spinning in time.

Electric blue sapphires giggle as they are passed to new owners,

Stunning white ivory squeals frantically as it is sculpted,

Bold green jade dance like Gods to their own music.

Glowing gold coins sleep peacefully in bamboo cradles,

Scarlet red rubies show no emotion as they are roughly handled,

Soft cream silk flows like running water in trader’s hands.

Treasures

Treasures

Gold…shines like the sun,

Ivory…sharp as a knife,

Diamonds…clear as glass,

Silk…light as a feather.

Smooth Delight

Smooth Delight

Silk…a woven dream,

Silk…delicate as a feather,

Silk…a magical cloth,

Silk…made by moonlight,

Silk…a beautiful melody,

Silk…smooth as rose petals,

Silk smiles sweetly at her new master.

Journey to the Silk People

Journey to the Silk People

Trading position number one had been reached,

Camels gradually slumped to the ground exhausted,

Traders waited as still as statues watching like hawks.

Ivory suppressed her sobbing in anticipation of being sold,

Gold reflected like a mirror with a slight tinge of yellow,

Childishly, silver sniggered as the sunlight’s beams bounced off his reflective surface.

Gems squealed painfully as they switched hot hands,

Spices let out deafening screams as they were extracted,

Silently, fur shrugs wriggled in desperation to get back home.

Trading position number two in mind,

Camels strongly protested at progressing onwards,

Traders aspired to meet China, home to the silk people.

Journey to the End

Journey to the End

Silk worm squeals in delight returning to her mulberry tree,

Greedily scoffing leaves with hope that life could be different,

Silk worm sighs desperately at another long, lonely day.

Silk worm panics silently about not seeing sunlight again,

Innocent cocooned ball of fluff knowing what lies ahead,

Silk worm spins unpleasantly to her death.

Through the Eyes of a Silk Worm

Through the Eyes of a Silk Worm

Lying in my bed,

Waiting to be thread,

Stuck in my cocoon,

Death is coming soon.

White Delicacy

White Delicacy

Ivory is a glowing star,

Ivory is a perfect dream,

Ivory is a beaming light,

Ivory is a glamorous dress,

Ivory is a lonely sigh.

Solemn Wee Soul

Solemn Wee Soul

Cucumber lays helpless and still amongst the dragon fruit,

Sighs deeply as though intimidated,

Sticks out like a sore thumb,

Smiles pathetically to hide feelings of shame,

Sucks an empty breath in and prepares for his adventure.

Spirit of the Silk Road

Spirit of the Silk Road

Let me whisk you along on my silken threads,

Faster than a flying dragon,

Lighter than a bird.

Hear farewell to China, our radiant Queen,

Watch demanding deserts,

Feel mischievous mountains.

Let me whisk you along on my silken threads,

Faster than a flying dragon,

Lighter than a bird.

Hear precious gems scream sharply for attention,

Watch beautiful silk sleep peacefully,

Feel danger radiating from the sands.

Let me whisk you along on my silken threads,

Faster than a flying dragon,

Lighter than a bird.

Hear Buddhism, Islam and Zoroastrianism,

Watch exciting ideas demand attention,

Feel powerful barter and haggle.

Let me whisk you along on my silken threads,

Faster than a flying dragon,

Lighter than a bird.

Silk

Silk

Carelessly thrown into boiling water,

Screaming painfully,

Crying tears of despair,

Mother of silk has gone,

Not worthy for this life,

New born silk glistens with hopes and fears.
